The typical Miombo forest has, in the Copperbelt province more than anywhere else in Zambia, suffered from mining and charcoal production. This reforestation projects works with hundreds of farmers. Providing them with training and tools to diversify their sources of income while they plant and protect local forests. As a result, they receive a higher income, diversify their economic activities and learn new skills.

The project’s objectives are the following :

  • Restore native Miombo woodlots on smallhold farms

  • Promote economic development

  • Build livelihood resilience

The project is run by WeForest.

2.4 million trees growing

2’000 ha under restoration

Potential carbon stock : 290’000 tons CO2

 
 
  • Using beehives as a way to increase the farmers’ income while the fruit trees grow

  • Scaling up a reforestation project in a region where 20 Millions trees are already growing
